Step 20 - Hook Up Your Utilities

Time for Some Lights!

This is one of those important tasks that often gets overlooked, but it's crucial, especially if you want the TV and internet working on the day you move in. It's time to call and hook up your utilities! Be sure to get the gas and electricity changed into your name. Typically, in South Jersey, you'll call  PSE&G for electricity and gas service. In Pennsylvania, you’ll call  PECO for electricity and PGW for gas. You'll also want to contact your TV and internet provider as soon as possible, as you'll likely need to schedule an appointment with them for service installation, and it can take weeks to get an appointment. We will always send you the correct utility companies to reach out to for your specific area. Expect to receive it via email the week of closing.

Water and sewer are usually changed into your name at closing, however, it is always best to give the utility company a call beforehand to confirm if they will need a deposit or additional information from you.
